Recap: ESSENCE’s Evening of Excellence Gala Feat. En Vogue

Sheila Johnson along with Rodney Peete and Holly Robinson Peete were among the honorees at ESSENCE’s  2nd annual Evening of Excellence—a special awards reception as part of the 2010 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) Annual Legislative Conference.

Held at the Ronald Reagan Building (1300 Pennsylvania Ave.) on Friday evening, the reception honored some of today’s most influential advocates and architects of change. Warrick Dunn, founder, Warrick Dunn Family Foundation and Judge Glenda Hatchett, host of the Judge Hatchett show and best-selling author were the other distinguished honorees.

HLN’s Richelle Carey, served as the evening’s host while Grammy-nominated R&B group En Vogue treated guests to a special performance. Thanks to DJ D-Nice guests danced the night away until the wee hours of the morning.

We spotted many notables in attendance: Rep. John Lewis, Rep. Maxine Waters, Rep. Roland Burris, Chris Tucker, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Isiah Thomas, Bernadette Stanis, Shirley Sherrod, Kim Whitley and Niecey Nash.
