Chuck Brown, known as the “Godfather of Go Go” died today after battling pneumonia for months in the hospital. He was 75.

Brown’s manager confirmed his death to the Washington Post.

Last month, Brown canceled a show at the newly renovated Howard Theatre “due to joint pain and inflammation that has prevented him from performing,” according to this Facebook page.

Celebrities have already responded the the death of a man that energized Washington, D.C. and put us on the map.

Nightlife changes seem to be never ending in Baltimore and this coming summer is no different.

Dubai (200 Redwood) will shut their doors on January 1, 2013. The club’s lease with the the historic Mercantile Trust and Deposit Company building is scheduled to end and will reopen as a new theater for live performances to include Shakespeare and other classic plays performed by Howard County’s Shakespeare Company.

The managing partners of Club Dubai are “weighing their options” on whether or not to continue operations at another location, said the club’s attorney Paul Gardner in a statement to the Baltimore Sun.

In other news:  starting the first week of June, WERQ 92.3 will host a weekly event at Mirage (401 W. Baltimore)  on Friday evening, ending the short lived Trix and Zeke Friday Night Lights party.

Our fashion demi-goddess Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted in Washington, D.C. with her husband Matthew Broderick and son. The Parker-Broderick family caught the Monday night showing of 1176 at Ford’s Theatre, according to sources.

In honor of their championship win, President Barack Obama welcomed Major League Soccer champions Los Angeles Galaxy, including the sexy fine David Beckham to the East Room of the White House yesterday.

Obama, an avid sports fan, used this time to take a couple jabs at Beckham, 37, one of the oldest men in the MLS.

“I have to say, I gave David a hard time. I said half his teammates could be his kids. We’re getting old, David. Although you’re holding up better than me.

“Last year at the age of 36, David had his best year in MLS. Leading the team with 15 assists He did it despite fracturing his spine halfway through the season and injuring his hamstring a week before the championship game. He is tough. It is a rare man who can be that tough on the field and have his own line of underwear. David Beckham is that man.”

The Galaxy soccer players Players also participated in a “Let’s Move!” question and answer session with young sports fans and first lady Michelle Obama after the ceremony.

Last night, the American Ballet Theatre held their annual Opening Night Spring Gala at the Metropolitan Opera House in Lincoln Center. Thousands of art lovers herded into the Met, raising $1.8 million dollars for the company. Also, a portion of the proceeds will support ABT’s education and community outreach programs.

Sponsored by Graff and Valentino, (who failed to supply an open bar, but we’re not *cough * complaining!)  ABT’s renowned principal dancers, as well as soloists and members of the corps de ballet gave preview performances from the eight-week season, which included Le Corsaire, La Bayadère, Thirteen Diversions, Don Quixote, Romeo & Juliet, Swan Lake and Onegin. The highlight of the evening included a performance by students of ABT’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, who drew awwws from the audience.

Speaking of the audience, it was peppered with celebrities, art icons and fashion designers. Talk show host Wendy Williams, stylist June Ambrose, skater Johnny Weir, designers Christian Siriano and Rachel Roy along with models Alek Wek, NFL Hall of Fame’s Curtis Martin, and reality stars Nene Leakes and Cynthia Bailey were in attendance.

Although honorary chairs Caroline Kennedy and Blaine Trump were on hand, too bad their fellow co-chair first lady Michelle Obama wasn’t there. Instead, her husband spent the day around New York, giving the commencement speech at Barnard University and the set of ABC’s The View.

Roc Nation’s Bridget Kelly (Is anyone else dying for some new music from her?!) stopped by Lux Lounge last weekend, during the Howard University graduation party-palooza. The singer also hosted an event at Bar 7, around the corner.

Also spotted partying and standing on couches was 106 & Park’s Rocsi Diaz and Baltimore-bred NFL player Aaron Maybin, who smiled very hard next to her for most of the night. R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn also stopped by.

Darryl’s Corner Bar and Kitchen went left when other went right; on the typically revered Cinco de Mayo, Darryl’s decided to host their first annual Kentucky Derby Day! Hats abounded and Hennessey drinks flowed while patrons sipped on mint juleps and got ready to compete in the hat competition.
