As homecoming continues this weekend, Morehouse College kicked off their Homecoming festivities at the inaugural HBCU Power Awards Martin Luther King Jr International Chapelin Atlanta.
The evening honored actress Jada Pinkett Smith, Team Epiphany founder Coltrane Curtis, Next Management president Kyle Hagler, Atlanta Hawks Chief Diversity Officer Nzinga Shaw, Interscope Records VP Keinon Johnson, Warner Bros Records SVP Phylicia Fant, Wells Fargo EVP Beverly Anderson and Atlanta Housing Authority chair Rob Rumley.
The HBCU Power Awards were conceptualized by Morehouse alums Derek “Fonzworth Bentley” Watkins (c/o ’96), Jash’d Kambui Belcher (c/o ’99) and Roderick Hardamon (c/o ’98).
Hosted by Deon Cole, the evening featured performances by Morehouse Glee Club and Horns section and R&B singer H.E.R.
During award winner Smith’s moving acceptance speech, the actress spoke on the dynamics of power and the responsibility we all have to manage it wisely.
The Fab Empire spotted many celebrities at the awards, including producer Will Packer, supermodel Jessica White, actor Michael Jai White, style expert Tai Beauchamp, Atlanta Hawks Foundation EVP David Lee, creative consultant and entrepreneur Taiye Samuel, radio/tv personality Gary “With The Tea” Hayes, singer Dondria Nicole, rapper Silento, author Zane and many more.
