Salsa in the ParkMonday, June 12

Salsa In The Park (SITP) kicks off its 10th summer season at the Blackstone Community Center (50 W. Brookline St, South End) 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Join them for a fun, free and family friendly outdoor dancing experience to promote health and wellness. This event takes place every Monday throughout the summer.

Open MicTuesday, June 13

Show your skills at an Open Mic Series that works to highlight local performing artists and poets, visual artists in the City of Boston at La Fábrica Central (450 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge) 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Featuring artists – Anson Frazier, Pharess and Mike Conroy. This is an open Mic Event. All ages are welcome to attend.

Women of Color Conference takes place at Harvard University Austin Hall, Harvard Law School (1515 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge) The all day conference invites you to experience leadership development, inspiration, and connections. Speakers include: Heather C. White (Trillfit), Lisa Coleman (Harvard University), Carole Copeland-Thomas (C. Thomas and Associates). The event will be emceed by Amaka Ubaka (7 News). Join the Museum of African American History (46 Joy St, Beacon Hill) in celebrating Juneteenth! Juneteenth 1865 is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. There will be a Fashion Expose by Iam Kreyol, Sounds by April Stanford and Debo Ray,Tastings by Zaz Restaurant and Delectable Desires Pastries. You can also experience the Exhibit of “Picturing Frederick Douglass: The Most Photographed American of the Nineteenth Century”.  Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased here.

CeCeSaturday, June 17

It’s the annual Roxbury Homecoming in Franklin Park. Be sure to bring your own lawn chair, blankets, and cookout gear (including the food!) This is a great annual event where everyone feels like family. People start to arrive around 10:00 a.m.

Learn basic techniques for gardening in raised-bed gardens and other small spaces with The Food Project at Dudley Green House (9 Brook Ave, Roxbury) 10:00 a.m.. Participants create a garden map, use the square-foot method, and learn from demonstrations of planting techniques. Registration is requested, but not required.

Hike 4 Life invites you to enjoy a peaceful afternoon walking through Franklin Park complete with mediation and sounds with Michelle of Operation B Fit and Stephanie, The Singing Bowl lady. Water, light snacks and mats will be provided.Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased here. 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Experience The Charles by kayak with the Young Black Professionals group at The Charles River Canoe and Kayak Kendall Square location (15 Broad Canal Way, Cambridge) starting at 5:00 p.m. Kayak rental rates start at $15.00. They’ll kayak for about an hour before heading to drinks at a nearby watering hole.
