If his schedule is any indication, Kendrick Lamar is falling in love with D.C. After performing with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center last month, he kicked off his first annual “Kunta’s Groove Sessions” at Lincoln Theatre over the weekend.
It’s a more intimate performance featuring Jay Rock, Rhapsody and backed by his band, Wesley Theory. King Kendrick also greeted fans and signed tons of autographs — an activity to note considering he skips most red carpets and only grants interviews to select media. The “Groove Sessions” is clearly a chance for Kendrick to connect to his fans in a way never before seen…and his fans were appreciative.
Kendrick’s set didn’t change much from his bigger performances. He ran down his hits, including “m.A.A.d. City,” “Swimming Pools,” “King Kunta” and the uplifting track,”Alright.” Catch a hint of that performance below:
Fellow blogger Bobby Pen also spotted Kendrick’s fiance, Whitney Alford, in the audience watching her boo.
