Last week, the Washington D.C. Chapter of The Recording Academy hosted a private screening of Amy at Landmark E Street Cinema (555 11th St NW).

Media invitees, contest winners and members of The Recording Academy filled the theatre to see the highly-anticipated documentary directed by award-winning British Filmmaker, Asif Kapadia.

AmyDocAmy tells the tragic yet beautiful story of the amazingly talented singer, Amy Winehouse, and her lifelong struggle with addiction and mental health issues. The film, told through the lenses of individuals closest to Amy, gives an inside look into her brilliant mind and her ultimately damning experience with fame and success.

Permeated with intimate videos and photographs detailing the complexity of Amy’s life, the biographical documentary allows audience members to appreciate her musical genius and empathize with Amy on a whole new level.

The thought-provoking, authentic film is guaranteed to pull you in as it takes you through the emotional journey of Amy’s personal life and musical legacy.

Amy opens nationwide Friday, and it’s definitely a summer 2015 must-see.
