Groom: Brian Gay, 30, Insurance Agent
Wedding Date: June 28, 2014
Wedding Theme: Held in a city steeped in history, Talia and Brian displayed their “Southern Summer Romance” in Richmond, Virginia in front of 190 guests. Their traditional Christian ceremony took place at the well-known Fifth Baptist Church (1415 West Cary Street, Richmond, Va.) and was followed by a cocktail hour and reception at the Science Museum of Virginia (2500 West Broad Street, Richmond, Va.), a Richmond landmark and home to the Redskins Training camp.
How They Met: Talia and Brian met while attending Norfolk State University. After spying each other in the café during lunch one day in the spring, they crossed paths again in Brown Hall, where they exchanged phone numbers. A few conversations of getting to know each other, led to the realization that Brian’s best friend was the cousin of one of Talia’s best friends. And as fate would have it, Brian had plans to spend the summer with his uncle who lived in Prince George, Virginia; in a neighborhood which happened to be minutes away from Talia’s home! They dated throughout the summer, built their new friendship and upon returning to school in the fall, they made things official. Their relationship continued to blossom as they both went on to graduate from NSU, and Talia moved to attend graduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University.
After a few years of long distance, Brian relocated to Richmond for work. And the same week that Talia accepted a position that would move them to Northern Virginia, Brian proposed in a romantic display at the popular ice skating rink located in downtown Richmond, blocks away from where they held their wedding ceremony.
How Talia knew Brian Was “The One”: I fell in love with Brian very early in our relationship, and it was a little crazy to me how quickly it happened. But Brian has always been such a true gentleman, that it would have been hard not to fall for him! There was no ‘a ha’ moment for me where it suddenly clicked that Brian was ‘the one.’ I kind of knew it all along. When I started daydreaming of us getting married and having kids, I realized that I couldn’t imagine anyone else with whom I would want to build that life. Brian is a Christian man who respects his family and friends, is my biggest supporter and my closest confidant, and continues to make me a better person. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
How Brian knew Talia Was “The One”: There wasn’t a particular moment where I knew Talia was the one for me. It was an accumulation of things. She is very supportive and motivates me to be the best version of myself. She always keeps it straight forward and never sugar coats anything, which I’ve always admired about her. She is my total opposite — she’s more outgoing while I’m more reserved — which is another reason I think we mesh so well; because she makes me whole. I respect her without a doubt and she makes me very happy. I believe it was in God’s plans for us to be together based on how we actually met and built our relationship. I am thankful everyday she is here with me and now that she is my wife, I look forward to continuing this life long journey with her.
