You’re Invited: Caribbean Fashion Week

BCFW Campaign picBoston Caribbean Fashion Week (BCFW) 5-day event  dedicated to Caribbean fashion kicks off Monday August 11 and goes through August 15, 2014. You’ll see original creations from New England designers. Here’s the line up:

Monday, August 11: Opening Night Kick Off  with an intimate reception with drinks, apps and music. Fashion industry people, BCFW sponsors and partners, press and BCFW designers will come together to socialize for the up coming event at The Charlesmark Hotel, 655 Boylston St, Boston, MA (by invitation only).

Tuesday, August 12 is an educational night with our panel discussion titled A Costume Designer’s Process: From a Sketch the Roadeld at The Mildred Ave Community Center Auditorium (5 Mildred Avenue, Mattapan) 6:00pm. Featured panelist is Daryl Cox better known in the carnival community as Designing DARYL, born in Trinidad and Tobago he now resides es in Boston, MA. Daryl is an accomplished carnival costume designer on both the local and international scenes, creating winning costumes  for clients in Toronto, the Cayman Islands, Miami, New York, Atlanta, California and Boston. Moderating the discussion will be radio personality David Martin of Caribbean Connection on Big City 101.3 FM.

Wednesday, August 13 is Caribbean Shopping Night Out held at the Reggie Lewis Center (1350 Tremont Street, Roxbury) starting at 5:30 pm. Purchase some Caribbean inspired  items at even great deals while supporting local businesses.

Thursday and Friday, August 14 and 15 closes out the week with two days of runway presentations at Carson’s Place at Boston Teacher’s Union (180 Mt. Vernon Street Dorchester). Doors open at 5:30 pm and the show begin at 7pm.. Featured designers will be Zulimar Vidal, Yannery Burgos, Hector J. RodriguezMaria del Carmen Mercado and  Marleny Santamaria. Boston Carnival costumes presentations by i-Mas by bandleader Larry Jordan and Funaddix by bandleaders Celina Paul and Vaughn JonBaptiste. Vendos will be on site.

Ticket prices for the festival start at  $10.00, but as a faithful reader, you can can get a 40% General Admission discount for August 14 and 15 runway shows and for the fashion week pass (this will give access to the invitation-only Opening Night reception on Aug 11) using the code BCFWBOSFAB. You will also get preferred seating to all events. Talk about VIP!
