Weekend Highlights: MVAAFF, Summer Madness Music Festival, John Legend and more!

Last weekend – well the entire week – was a “doosey” and as the count down to the end of summer has officially begun – there are already back to school commercials ūüôĀ – we are here to make sure that you weekend is full of not-to-miss activities. MVAAFF Wednesday, August 6th 

Just a short ferry ride away, The 12th Annual Martha’s Vineyard African American Festival (MVAAF) that continues through Saturday. See an abundance of independent films, and maybe even a few celebrities!¬†Individual film tickets are $15.00. See complete details here.

Thursday, August 7th

Join Discover Roxbury for a FREE night at the Isabella Gardner Museum (280 The Fenway) 5:00pm – 9:00pm. Enjoy the art while you listen to the¬†Caribbean Afro rhythms of Tempo International Rhythm Section. The theme for tonight is “Earth Actually”. You can join in on a hands on activity with artists Emma Welty or learn the art of paper making with artist Julie Weaver. This is a family-friendly event.¬†

From 5:00pm – 9:00pm go to the neighborhood of Jamaica Plain (JP) to enjoy their Third Thursday, ArtWalk. See artisans from all over the area. Tonight kicks off Martha’s Vineyard Summer Madness Festival that goes through Sunday night. It’s all ladies this time around with acts like Melanie Fiona, Amel Larreaux, Beverly Bond, Collette, Ms. Lauryn Hill and more! ¬†DJ Mc Lyte and DJ¬†Monie Love will be keeping the parties hype! Saturday, August 9th

Volunteer with youth today at the UMassBoston Clark Athletic Center from 12:00pm – 5:00pm for Youth Enrichment Day 2014! You’ll be helping with set up, directing students, answering questions and the like. Lunch will be provided. Contact Allison Rogers via e-mail or call 617.635.1455 to sign up!
