“After the show, it’s the after party” was more than a saying last Saturday when BET hosted its annual D.C. awards show, The BET Honors at Warner Theatre.

Afterward, celebrities, VIPs, sponsors, and media made their way through the awful DC Capital’s traffic at the Verizon Center to Howard Theatre in the U Street corridor.

It was the first time the network used the concert venue for an event, and now we know why. (In previous years, they’ve held the BET Honors after party at the Ronald Reagan Building.) Although it may be great for concerts, Howard Theatre was just too small for all of the black star power that BET had brought to town.

After wading through the bottleneck the red carpet in the lobby created, and the one at the bar, guests enjoyed an open bar, celebrities galore and hors d’oeuvres.

We spied Tamar Braxton, who moved from a VIP table upstairs to another one downstairs closer to the dance floor. Wolf Blitzer was steps away from Scandal‘s Joe Morton, near the bar on the second floor, while Wayne Brady looked overwhelmed at all the folks trying to say congratulations for doing an amazing job hosting. We saw Da Brat, with her signature cornrows, near the bar, while Bobby V snagged a VIP table near Janelle Monae‘s. And while BET President Stephen Hill was spied looking down at the dance floor, BET CEO Debra Lee was spotted right on the dance floor all night.

The BET Honors after-party was definitely the hottest party in town.
