Last weekend Layla Lounge opened its doors for the launch of Howard University alum Trey Wheat’s brand new cocktail, Erotique Liqueur.
Hosted by Vivica A. Fox and D.C. native Laz Alonso, the event brought out some of D.C.’s movers and shakers who enjoyed a night of tunes presented by WKYS’ DJ Gemini and, of course, complimentary Erotique cocktails.
Wheat exclusively tells DC Fab! the drink came about nine years ago when he was a bartender mixing up specialty drinks that eventually became more and more popular.
“The more research I did and the more understanding I had of the industry. I figured what better time than now for a new drink,” explains Wheat, who also adds that the name Erotique has nothing to do with anything sexual and randomly came about after his original brand name was taken.
On the importance of using Washington, D.C. as the market to launch his brand, Wheat explains he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I’m originally from Petersburg, VA, but I’ve been here 17 years. I’ve developed a strong foot hold in the market and in the industry and I just feel that it was extremely important for me being almost homegrown in D.C. to start here,” he said.
The drink, which is a blend of vodka and natural fruit juices, definitely has a refreshing flavor that Wheat hopes will soon become an international favorite.
