Recap: Howard Theatre’s Second Annual Gala Honors Chaka Khan, Dionne Warwick and Valerie Simpson

Last Friday, Howard Theatre opened its doors for the Second Annual Gala and Benefit Concert After-Party. The evening celebrated  women who have helped redefine the music industry, including Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan and Valerie Simpson.

The evening — dubbed The Party for the People — gathered D.C. politicos, celebrities and socialites for memorable performances. Hosted by comedian and Dancing with the Stars contestant, D.L. Hughley and reality star/comedian Kym Whitley, artists such as Be Be Winans, Sheila E., Kenny Lattimore, Yolanda Adams and Marsha Ambrosius took the stage.

Following the gala, UPTOWN magazine hosted an exclusive after-party featuring celebrity deejay Vashtie Kola.
