The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation held their annual AVOICE Heritage Celebration last night at Howard Theatre.
The 2013 honorees included Stevie Wonder, Congresswoman Carrie Meek and Time Warner, Inc. While Congressman James E. Clyburn recited Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116 to describe and honor Congresswoman Carrie Meeks, Stevie Wonder enjoyed a musical tribute from his longtime friends Maurette Brown Clark, Dionne Warwick, Maysa and Doug E. Fresh, who performed a hip hop tribute.
This intimate dinner and awards fundraiser honors individuals and organizations that celebrate the spirit of the AVOICE Virtual Library Project, the only virtual library project of its kind serving as a central source of information on historical and contemporary African-American policy issues.
