‘Props’ marks the end of pomp and grandeur in New York City nightlife as we know it.
Legendary DJs Rich Medina and Akalepse host ‘Props’ every Wednesday in the Gallery (an intimate bar/ lounge area) of Le Poisson Rouge, more commonly referred to as LPR.
This dance party is exactly what one would expect out of a venue that is named after a fish, and located in the heart of Greenwich Village—it’s funky!!!
On Wednesday nights LPR’s art-filled Gallery is transformed with a symphony of exaggerated body movements that adorn the dance floor. At Props, a loyal following of poppers, lockers, and breakers (all which are distinctive forms of dance) get-down along side the more remedial shoulder-bouncers and two-steppers. Every Wednesday, without fail, the dancers are in full-effect.
Every. Body. Rocks. DJs Rich Medina and Akalepse are in sync with their audience. Even the rhythm-less people seem to work up the courage to bust-a-move.
Not a dancer? Not a problem!
Sit at the bar, nod your head, or even wave your hands in the air. It is all good! Just come to experience quality music and quality DJs. After all, when was the last time you’ve actually heard a DJ scratch?
In the Gallery walls pulse tunes from James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Fela Kuti, Chaka Khan (Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan…), Common, J-Dilla, and the Notorious B.I.G. to name a few. The music is two-parts soul, one-part funk, a dash of grimy, with a twist of rump-shaker. Unquestionably, the recipe for a good time!
Come as you are, and leave a believer.
