R&B crooner Musiq Soulchild stopped by Howard Theatre (620 T Street NW) last night to serenade fans. The Philadelphia-repping singer sang tunes from his latest release “MusiqInTheMagiq” and sung the classics, including “Love,” “Just Friends,” “Halfcrazy” and “Dontchange.”
The Grammy nominated singer also released a new book titled “1-4-3” after his hit song from his debut album “Aijuswanaseing.”
“I don’t like to think of it as a self-help book,” Musiq told the WaPo, ” even though it may come across that way because it has a do-it-yourself theme to it. It’s not an autobiography either, even though I do draw from personal experiences. It’s not about how they happened for me, it’s more so about the lesson that I’ve learned from those experiences.”
Soul singer Avery Sunshine opened for Musiq and of course she performed her hit song “Ugly Part of Me.” Avery told me a few months ago that she penned that hit while she was dealing with her divorce.
“I may have not been Avery Sunshine if I weren’t married and divorce. This album really started when I was divorcing,” the Chester, Pa. singer told me. “”I learned I’m going to wait on God. I’m going to learn to be patient. I learned that God has given me instincts for a reason and to go with them, which has helped me with this writing process and being in the industry.”
