Recap: Mz Liz’s Birthday at Newly Opened Tonic

Some call her Liz DSTination, Mz Liz, Liz from Roxbury…but last Friday night she was simply Liz. One of the premiere personalities and female promoters in the city, Liz decided to go low key this birthday and give a newly opened spot in JP a chance to drum up some business.

The love was certainly in the room at Tonic (3698 Washington St) as people trickled in to the downtownesque spot with plush chairs and unique light fixtures – love the city skyline one! The manager set up the place to feel welcoming.

Liz did a great job as hostess, stopping at the tables to check on everyone, taking photos and showing how much she appreciated people coming to hang out with her. It was super sweet. And it was nice to be around people in a non-club environment, just talking, laughing and getting to know one another. And to top off our night, “Chanel” red velvet cupcakes. Only her. 🙂

As for a reveiw of Tonic…unfortunately I can’t give a glowing one. The table next to me had drink orders that were messed up a few times, and the mussels that one woman ordered were not fully steamed. It took a few patrons over 15 minutes to get their drinks and they were equally dismal about the food. I ordered truffle fries super excited because they’re my favorite and most places have stopped serving them. Unfortunately it seemed like the chef didn’t use fresh or quality potatoes and didn’t fry the potatoes in truffle oil, but added it on top. Kinda yick!

With such a great atmosphere in my own neighborhood, I will certainly be back, but they need to get the food quality and service upgraded quickly. It certainly has the potential to become my Friday after work drink spot as they have $5.00 apps until 6pm – daily. Follow them on Twitter or check out their Facebook page.

Thanks for introducing it to us Liz!
