R&B singer Melanie Fiona hosted Ojon Beauty‘s Rare Blend Oil launch party at The Standard in downtown Manhattan earlier this week. Beauty experts and fashionistas also took in amazing artwork by famed photographer Andrew Dosunmu (who brought his daughter along as his date) and live art by Amanda Seales. DJ Jasmine Solano also curated the music for the night that featured hits from Melanie’s latest album The MF Life, released in March.
The Standard‘s penthouse floor provided the perfect view to talk beauty and fashion. With amazing views from every side — think looking at the Empire State Building and also peering over the Brooklyn Bridge — guests dined on passed hors d’oeuvres such as cucumber bruchetta, brie cheese puff thingy (lol, sorry I had no clue what it was, but it tasted delicious!) and baked zucchini — model food. Bacardi Gold Tequila sunrises were the perfect Spring drink for the evening.
Melanie played the perfect host, walking around to guest introducing herself — a rarity in the standoffish New York scene. Other notables spotted mingling included designers Coco and Breezy, cultural critic and writer Michaela Angela Davis, author Demetria Lucas, writers Ashley Calloway and Leah Faye Cooper, socialite Bevy Smith, public relations guru Syreta Oglesby, marketing maven Shayna D., bloggers Christina Brown and Gabriel Williams.
