The most anticipated concert this fall hit Washington, D.C.’s Verizon Center last night. Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s “Watch the Throne Tour” took over my Twitter timeline.
If you’ve been following the WTT concert coverage than not much changed: Kanye still had on his leather kilt, Beyonce showed up bouncing to her man’s beat and they ended the show by performing “Ni**as in Paris” three times.
Still, there were some D.C. specific highlights. Not only was Wale in the building, Jay-Z shouted out a local university.
“Shout out to Georgetown, to Professor Michael Eric Dyson for that class!” That class that Hov is referring to is a Sociology course titled SOCI-124-01 or “Sociology of Hip-Hop — Urban Theodicy of Jay-Z.” It asks students to think about Jay-Z‘s lyrics intellectually, theologically and philosophically.
And of course, Kanye alllllmost had a moment when the lighting man fumbled doing his job on “All of the Lights.” Yeezy started the song over three times because the stage wasn’t lit properly. Tell ‘em Ye!
And since most media outlets weren’t allowed cameras inside the concert, here are some aggregated pictures we found around the Web:
No, those aren’t real shark tanks. They’re actually cubed light installations. The two titans of hip hop each performed on a cube across the audience. Those screens also showed shots of dogs and other scary animals.
