The official unveiling of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial finally happened this weekend in D.C. Tens of thousands of people joined performers including Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, Aretha Franklin and Ledisi as they honored a man of “Civil Rights.”
“It’s truly a great moment for every American that we can all come see the dream whenever we want,” Stevie said to the crowd.
Watch Stevie’s performance of “Happy Birthday.” He said he wrote this song because he imagined people singing this as they marched:
Politicians such as John Lewis were peppered in the audience, as well as NAACP president Ben Jealous.
Watch Aretha Franklin’s performance of “Precious Lord,” a song she says Dr. King often requested.
