Poet Maya Angelou received a standing ovation after reading Abudant Hope at the “Women Who Dare to Dream” luncheon last Friday in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial dedication. “… He preached fair play and serenity. From handcuffs and prison garb, from leg irons and prison bars,” the 83-year-old poet spoke.
Other prominent women gathered to celebrate Dr. King including Sheila Johnson, Maya Angelou, Ashley Boalch (Miss DC), India Arie, who performed with Ledisi, Lalah Hathaway, Debra Lee, Christine King Farris and Bernice King.
