Nestled behind the mosque near the Roxubry Commuity college is a little jem called Anshur Restaurant (291 Roxbury St, Roxbury). The decor is simple, a bit antiquated, but clean and has a cozy neighborhood feel.
You order your food from the front, the menu of the day is scribbled onto a chalk board and has very reasonably priced. Somali Halal and Mediterranian snacks are on the list like falafel pitas or sandwich wraps of lamb, chicken or goat. They even have a few American influenced dishes such as quesadillas and spagehtti.
I tried the falafel pita and it was absolutely delicious! Like 5 star quality, I wanted to ask for another, but didn’t want to seem greedy, but at $6 it’s defintely worth double dipping.
Everything is simply served on styrofoam plates and plastic cultery, so you may find it more desirable to take their food to go.
The must have at this place is the tea. I don’t know what they put in it, but many a patron came in only for that stuff. It’s hot and has a spicy sweet goodness I’ve never tasted any where else. Definetly beats out any hot chocolate or cider concoxion.
I highly recommend you check out this little gem and don’t forget to get the tea!
