Recap: Hip-Hop’s Mrs. Support “Platinum” Release Party for Aliya S. King

It was her assignment from her editor at VIBE: to capture the lives of the women married to hip-hop’s rap superstars and Aliya S. King couldn’t get enough.

After the story, King had more ideas burning inside of her…and just couldn’t put her pen down. Penning a juicy novel based around the lives of hip-hop’s “rib”, the women married to rappers, King must have done them justice as Mashonda, ex-wife of producer Swizz Beats and Tashera Simmons, estranged wife of DMX, came to support the author last night at her book release party held at Bo Concepts.

Industry heads, publicists and writers gathered to celebrate King and her latest novel while sipping on cups of Hennessy Black and eating delicious sweets like chocolate covered strawberries and platinum covered rice krispie treats (yes, I tried them all).

Standing ontop of a white crate in black stilettos with buckles, King read an exerpt from her book to an attentive audience. She also revelead she’ll be co-authoring Tashera Simmons’ book about her life being married to DMX, which if you keep up with the blogs, I’m sure wasn’t easy. King co-authored New York Times bestseller “Keep the Faith” that tells the story of R&B singer and widow of Biggie Smalls, Faith Evans.

The party continued with the help of Henessy Black and encouragement from King saying, “Let’s all keep drinking,” although admittedly she sipped on water (read the book and you’ll get it). “Platinum: A Novel” is on book stands now or just head over to to get yourself a copy!
