Promotional Group, RS Entertainment hosted “The Quarterly,” this past Saturday at Lemongrass (1300 Bank St.) The much buzzed about event was being held as something “new” for the young professional crowd of charm city. Patrons were asked to to come in their best semi-formal attire for the “urban socialite” setting.
Upon arrival attendees had the option of Valet and VIP attendees were even walked to the door. The first and second floor were both filled with patrons jamming to the sounds of D.J. P Drama who played a great variety of music including Lady GaGa, Black Eyed Peas, Estelle and much more. The event was sponsored by Grand Marnier and free shots were passed out all night, which the crowd absolutely loved.
Although the invitation promised that strict dress code would be enforced, it wasn’t. There were more than a few young men walking around with polo hats (side eye), jeans and sneakers on. Ladies were also spotted wearing jeans and regular tees. The wardrobe was a bit disappointing as it took away the young professional feel and left me feeling like it was just another night in Baltimore.
Lemongrass, although a nice venue, it didn’t seem to fit the “urban socialite” setting they were going for. It was basically one huge bar, there were no real VIP tables, and people who did purchase the small tables on the second floor seemed a bit uncomfortable. The second floor which was supposed to be VIP, didn’t feel like VIP because everyone and anyone came upstairs. After just a little over an hour the second floor was shut down and everyone was asked to go back to the first floor. Sigh.
The entire event seemed more like a reunion for Morgan students/alumni (shout out to MSU), rather than something special.
RS Entertainment did a great job of trying to bring something new to the scene. However, I suggest next time they actually enforce the dress code, choose a new venue, and expand the network of people they invite.
They get a Fab! B+ for effort.
