Last Tuesday I headed out to the Kid Cudi Official After-Party at Pearl (after being bumped from Underbar for another event) . Through BBM and Twitter (bostonfab) I heard he and Asher Roth killed it at the House of Blues! and were ready to rock til morn’.
This was my first time to Pearl since the remodel, but when I saw the turquoise starwell I was like – should y’all of bothered?
I was met at the door by a girl in panties short shorts. I did a double-take and checked the flyer to see if somewhere it mentioned ”lingere welcomed” – nope! Never-the-less these contraptions remained the staple attire of the night for the ladies – ugh.
On the music tip the DJ booth was on overload with DJ’s Backspin, Big, and EV and Panma from Cleveland. All of their mini-sets were horrifically disappointing with repeat songs and techno sets to cater to the “drop and glow” crowd (ie: drop it like it’s hot – it wasn’t - glow, like the glow sticks) – “Poker Face” was the hit song of the night – twice.
Kid Cudi showed, but didn’t get on the mic and was out in 5 – word has it that his table wasn’t ready the club was dismal so he bounced – don’t blame him at ‘tal. Suffice to say I only stayed to write this recap. I must seriously “heart” you guys.
*Side Note: Panma and EV are mad cool dudes and show’d Mid-West hospitality to your girl morseo than dudes I know here!! SMH. You guys rock! If you are in Cleveland, Panma also frequents CT – def. check ‘em out – Ima catch y’all at the mansion, sabes? LOL.
With the amount of promoters and spamming to my Facebook you would have thought the line woulda been out the door, right? So what gives? There were multiple issues with this night, first off having Kid Cudi at Pearl and Asher Roth at Rumor made no sense at all. Rumor is a staple night – not to mention, literally around the corner. Kid Cudi isn’t big enough yet (yes, it’s tru) to be able to pack a club out on his own in Boston. Especially since the majority of his followers are kiddies that can’t get into the club anyhow. Thus, Rumor was jumpin’ and this party was a wrap before it began.
Ain’t rocket science, folks.
Better luck next time.
