It is not often that your girl takes a trip out to the suburbs, but my Fab! Friends and I were hype about the show and with FREE tickets for me and my girls (“First of all let me thank my connect” – THANK YOU AGAIN!!) I gassed up the car and headed out!
This was my first time to Showcase Live! which is connected to Gilette Stadium. You can’t miss the blaring red star blinking at you, beconing you inside. The advertisement’s had read standing-room only, but once inside we saw that there were seats and tables. Our hostess explained that they determine if they are going to leave seats out by the number of tickets sold. They seat you where have availablity, fortunately we were placed with people whe knew – at least by Facebook
- Mahalia and Kim.
I was hoooongry so first order of business was getting food and drink. I ordered the chesse tortelini in a white sauce, it was around $16, large portion and very tasty. The gals at the table also recommend the Blood Orange Martini.
Since we had got our seats around 7:30 we still had some time before the show began around quarter of 9. DJ Dark kept the Old Skool goin’ and the audience in a good mood.
The ladies entered the stage with high energy, dressed casually with print T’s and jeans, and although they had gained a few lbs over the years it seemed to be all in the right places. These women looked good!!
It took a minute for the crowd to move to the beat, as most were taking video or pictures. The ages ranged from young to old in all shades and creeds. “Never Gonna Get it” put us in the mood to put down the handhelds and! Their harmonies still sounded fresh which was no surprise these women have been together for 20 years!
The sound was well-balanced for the most part, but the ladies continuously asked for more volume, I’m sure there is some Massachusetts law in place on how many decibles something can be *smh, but it didn’t bother the audience much.
The highlight of the show had to be the “Piece of My Love” where they invited men on the stage to give a “piece of their love” (without touching them). They could sing, say a poem, dance…they all chose to sing. Why? I dunno because it was terrible, but cute. My favorite had to be Divo, yes Divo – his mamma should be ashamed - who sang his little ditty “I can lick you up and down, ’til you say stop” Hil-a-ri-ous.
After the men got off the stage it was time for the Old Skool mix with songs like “Ring my Bell”, “Best of My Love” and “Heard it Through the Grapevine”, though Teri forgot some of the words…it was all good. They kept the show interactive with talk about their hair bothering them, and of course their opinion on the Chris Brown and Rhianna situation making us feel like we were all old friends.
The finale song was “Free Your Mind!” which I thought was a very brave ending becuase that song certainly takes a lot of energy, but they did it right and left us begging for more, but sadly without an encore.
After the show…was the after-party. DJ Dark did a good job of keeping us going while they cleared the tables. Although most of his transitions left something to be desired he kept it funky with Old Skool jams, then moved in and out from current hits to reggae and back again. The ladies ran the floor for sure and there were some gals tearing the floor up! Poppin’ and lockin, droppin’ down low. We enven all broke out in the Electric Slide…
At12 a.m. the party abruptly came to a close. But we were ready to head on back to Boston for the 45 minute drive. This was a definite Fab! time and who knows? You may find me in the burbs more often.
Stay Fab!
