Once again, Gypsy Soul took over Teavolve to host another “Ear Candy”. This time the featured artists were W. Ellington Felton of D.C. and Shyvonne of New York. If you have never been to “Ear Candy”, it’s always a great showcase of (I hate to call them) underground talent with great people. It’s always hard to find young, professional, educated, urbanites in Baltimore but somehow Gypsy Soul brings them out.
This week featured W. Ellington Felton, who I heard before at The Black Cat last year and a good friend of mine Shyvonne (think crazy colored hair, funky NY style and a powerhouse voice).
Teavolve is the perfect venue for a cool out, jam session type of vibe. With comfy leather seats or tables, you can do like me and get a martini and a croissant (lol, I know but it was so delicious!!!) or sit at a table, sip on some wine and order pizza, hummus (I will admit, their menu is lacking for me).
Arriving around 8 p.m. was the perfect time because it was just starting (if you go next month, don’t go on time…you’ll be waiting until the place fills up) and Shyvonne was still writing down her second song “Let Go”, which she wrote that day. I got a clip of her performing “Second Chances”. I’m digging 1:07 mark:
W. Ellington Felton has been in the game longer. Clearly a crowd favorite, he performed around four or five songs. He even did a rendition of Usher‘s “You Don’t Have to Call”, which I kinda’ liked. If you’ve never heard of W. Ellington Felton, he’s worked with just about everyone including Raheem DeVaughn. He has a SUPER conscience message coupled with a smooth delivery and in your face rhythmic lyrics. Here’s his opening song:
Sitting up listening to these great acts, made me feel like I was in Love Jones (lol, no doubt). Still, it’s a great venue with great music…until next time!
